With the latest released feature called “Instant Search” it is like the engineers who coded this feature are reading our minds. You start typing and the screen starts filling up with the most logical choices. It is truly a wonderful and time saving feature! (Umm, just like the rest of GolfSigma.)

You really need to give it a try, head on over to www.golfsigma.com and …..Oops did you think I was talking about Google? Yeah I heard they did a pretty good job of instant search too, but with all the money they have is that a surprise? (BTW I am a big Google fan, so I am just kidding.)

Try our version of instant search by going to www.golfsigma.com . Our Golf Course directory just got better and faster. Trying to find a golf course, type part of the courses name, part of the city name it is in, or what street it is on, and instant search will show you the courses that meet your criteria. Looking for your next tee time, start typing and see an instant display of the cities with courses and online tee times.

Wow what will these engineers think of next to help us save time, a site that searches all the tee times sites and compares all the prices for us?

GolfSigma, saving you time again and again.

Sooooooooooooooooooo much more to come.

RichRichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-79169720763944740472010-09-04T16:35:00.000-07:002010-09-04T16:43:34.990-07:00
3000 Courses, but who is counting?

Remember when the net first started and you wanted to travel somewhere, before Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz and now Kayak? You would waste your time going to all the different airline sites and or hotel sites to do your research and figure out who had the right deal for you. Would you even consider doing that today, NO WAY?

Then why would you still do that today when you are looking for your next tee time? GolfSigma does all the work for you searching over 40 sites and 3000 courses and putting all the information, you need in one concise screen.

So the question is did you GolfSigma today, or maybe better yet why didn’t you GolfSigma today?

All right maybe that is a little like blowing our own horn, yes it is, but so many of our users go wow this is a no brainer when they find us.

Now we have added a new golf course directory that, ok blowing our own horn again, that is the best golf course directory that is out there. We have spent soooooooooo many hours researching the latest golf course information that “golfers” want to know, to see if this is the golf course you really want to play. We have also gone through great effort to furnish you with a link to the golf course web site, (we know you will come back to visit us soon)!

Oh, after you play leave your review / comments and tell the world what you think of the course. Always nice to the opinions of others that have played a course to help you make a buying decision.

One last note. Both our users and golf contacts have asked us about offering deals on our site and we are close to offering a solution, at least starting in the Phoenix area very soon. It has been a long time coming.
2. The best things in life are free.
3. Good things come to those who wait.
4. Good things come in small packages.
5. Good things come in threes. ( this is our 3rd major revision )
6. If it were easy everybody would be doing it.
7. Patience is a virtue.

Pick one of the above, they all apply. The new GolfSigma has been a work in progress now for a long, long time. Ok I will fess up, it was I that was the hold up, as I kept adding so many great things to make your experience with our site easy, fast and useful.

I have pondered what to put in the blog the first time after the system was released and I came up with the following mantra, KISS, just like GolfSigma. (Keep it simple stupid) So as not to go into detail on each and every feature and enhancement, I will list some of the major features in a bullet form and at a later date may try to bore you to death with a detailed explanation (Doubt it)

• We completely blew up the search algorithms and developed a totally new way to search for your tee times. (Oh and courses, more about that later) Faster by a magnitude of 100, + or – 80 or so.
• Search now works by geo location and a 50 mile radius of where you are searching from.
• Registration, totally optional, but with registration come some features, and more and more are planned. First features are;
o Widescreen detection when logged in and we will fell your screen with as many times that will fit on your monitor. Geeky but cool.
o The ability to write a review, anybody can look at them.
• Many more courses that have been added, another website, numerous golf course web sites and 1000’s of more tee times.
• International, just the start, but we do now have tee times in 5 countries. Canada at the moment has the most new courses, but we plan on spreading our wings to add many other countries.
• Ah a comprehensive golf course directory!!!! What do I mean comprehensive? Check it out and you will see a very unique approach to getting you the information that you are looking for. We have worked very hard on putting the best directory together for you. Including correct addressees and links to any and all golf course web sites where possible. The directory is US based only, currently, and we are very good through North Carolina. So we are in Ohio now correcting the database and adding more courses, so if you see something or we are missing something lets us know.
• Snap shot views have been intergraded into two different areas of GolfSigma, the tee time booking window and the golf course directory. I know you will like them as they provide the information at a glance that you need to know.
• Golf Course reviews and rating system. If you become a registered user of GolfSigma you can leave a rating or a review. Tell the rest of the golfing world what you think. When to just look at what others thought of a course, no need to register just locate the course in the directory.

I know what you are thinking, why did it take so long to just add those above features? See above number 1, 2,3,6,7.

Here is something equally important that I wanted to discuss in the new GolfSigma;

• We are still 100% free!
• We did not go for the tiered service level. All features of GolfSigma are free.
• Most importantly, feel good about our search results on GolfSigma; we do not add anything to the prices that we find. So what we see is what you get!

The best thing to do is to go to www.golfsigma.com and give it a spin. What can I say but this is just the tip of the iceberg, there is sooooooooooo much more to come.

If it were easy everybody would be doing it.

Rich
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-14404070643722849062010-04-09T08:42:00.000-07:002010-05-08T20:51:58.875-07:00Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles

The Secret Golfer and Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles

One of the thoughts I had back a while ago was to have a site that was like a “Secret Shopper,” except that it would be a “Secret Player” for Golf. If the site existed, the following would have been an article on that site. (BTW if you take this idea and make any money, remember me.)

I pulled up to the entrance of Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles at 7:00 am and was greeted by a young man who actually came to the car to get my equipment out of the car, instead of me bringing my bag to him. He was most pleasant and he was and right on top of what group I was in. Ah, that is a breath of fresh air, service.

While I was experiencing the service of the golf staff at Trump I was also trying to take in the beautiful stately clubhouse, even these words seem to be an understatement describing this beautiful facility. Old world charm mixed with “Today,” makes the clubhouse a beautiful facility, and that is not even considering the panoramic ocean views. Wow, this is starting to sound like an ad for Trump National, sorry it is not, and it is all true….

On my way to check in at the pro shop I was greeted by 100 images of Donald Trump, umm, might be exaggerating, actually we counted and it was 98, and a most friendly concierge. She was there to offer her help if I lost my way, which is entirely possible, and her smiling face at 7 am was most welcomed.

Onto check in at the pro shop. I give the guys in the golf shop a 10 out of 10. Friendly, informative, interested in my needs, genuinely focused on my group and me. I may say this more than once but I wished all courses were like this. However, the fact of the reality is they are not. Therefore, with that said I wished all high-end courses were like this course, but the fact of the reality they are not, kudos to the staff so far at Trump National.

With check in completed, our group was hungry and wanted to grab breakfast before we got out to experience the course. I am not exaggerating but once again what an experience, great food, beautiful restaurant, TV is going so our group could keep up with the world before our escape and the food was excellent. Mr. Trump talks about the food at the course on the course’s web site and he is not kidding, it is a great place to eat.

All right one knock, seems like I have to find something to keep this objective. The service in the restaurant was not on par of what I had experienced so far with the other Trump staff. Our server did not have the Trump National mystic about her, as everyone else seemed to have. She came across as disinterested and almost unfriendly but you know what, everyone has a bad day and it was not enough to bring down the breakfast, nor the golf day.

I was truly disappointed in one thing for sure; breakfast was so good that I did not have time to take in the practice facilities, that according to Mr. Trump have beautiful ocean views. Oh, well next time I will get there earlier, and yes I would love to play this course again soon.

Straight to the starter for our orientation. Ya know the bla, blah, blah, stuff that golfers do not always listen to? (Similar to the same speech that flight attendants render upon take off) Well leave it to Trump National to have a starter that was so engaging. What a way to start the round by talking to the Trump starter. We chatted about life, golf, Mr. Trump and of course, we talked about what to expect for the course.

Onto the course. I am not going to review every hole, as I am not a golf course architect, but let me tell you about the highlights.

· The first hole is breath taking enough that most courses would be happy to have it as a finishing hole, what a way to start.
· Greens were in good condition, looked faster than they were but plenty fast enough. Weird the ball kept rolling where I putted. ( I hate when that happens, not way to have excuses)
· Fairways, let's put it this way, I have played golf courses who would like to
have greens as nice as the fairways at Trump National.
· WOW tall grass! Not sure, I have that shot, it is tall and gnarly, but thankfully only in limited areas.
· Hit off the fairway, which seem to be generous enough, and my advice to you is do not waste your time looking for it. (Or in the words of a some Italian “Forget Abooout It.”) Really, if you are a higher handicapper, enjoy the course, enjoy the round, keep up the pace of play, and resolve to the fact that a ball into that stuff that lines the fairways is gone forever.
· Views, every hole, every direction, need I say more?
· Playability, excellent. The course is tough but fair. My Compliment to Trump National is this. When I was done with my round, I wanted to play it again because I know I could play it better!

I know when you write a review you need to find things that are wrong or bad so you have some objectivity to the review, so here is the knock, we did not get to meet Mr. Trump. There, I said it; that was the only thing wrong with Trump National. You know what, we got to meet the assistant general manager, who made a special trip out on the course to make sure our round was going well and that shows what a first class establishment Trump National is.

Over all I would have to put Trump National Golf Club in my all-time favorite golf Experiences.

My golf bag is a little lighter due to the loss of several golf balls. My wallet is a little lighter, no explanation required. However, I would tee it up there again as soon as I can get a chance.

My hat is off to Mr. Trump, Lilli and the staff at Trump National Golf Club for making this not just a round of golf but a fine golf experience.

Rating 5 out of 5 Stars (Spoiler alert - you will be able to do this in our new UI)

Oh and if you are wondering where we booked this great golf course….www.golfsigma.com

Rich…….

So much more to come……
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-26154719253067314952010-04-01T11:01:00.000-07:002010-04-01T12:58:42.135-07:00“Best Rate Guarantee”
“Best rate guarantee”, is a new trend in the golf industry for selling tee times that deserves the consumer’s attention. This marketing initiative is a takeoff from the hotel industry and seems to be catching on with certain golf courses and golf management companies.

Why do I bring it up, because GolfSigma’s commitment to displaying all tee times, retail, wholesale, packagers, canners, discount, rack, distressed, not distressed, long rage and short range, and whatever you want to call a rate, including best rate guarantee are all part of GolfSigma’s search results. (Well maybe not the “Canners”)

Do we distinguish this rate from any other rates in the tee time detail window, nope. I have stated before, see previous blogs, that price is only one small part of booking your next tee time, from what our customers have told us. As we have maintained from the launch of GolfSigma, we do not call your attention to any one particular tee time, as we realize what works for you may not work for the next golfer.

So to paraphrase a great slogan from a wonderful airline (Southwest), “You are free to move about the tee time detail window.”

Why bring up this rate issue anyway? I just wanted to let our golfers know that we are showing this new rate where we can, and are working with the technology providers where needed to expand this strategy where ever we can search it.

By the way, not that we are “Nuts about Southwest Airlines”, but golfers have to love em….Golf Bags Fly Free!!!!!! With that said, GolfSigma is pleased to announce the addition of 13 new golf courses in the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.

New Mississippi Golf Courses

· The Preserve Golf Club
· Windance Country Club
· Grand Bear Golf Club
· Shell Landing Golf Club
· The Bridges Golf Club at Hollywood Casino
· The Oaks Golf Club
· Pass Christian Isles Golf Club
· Diamondhead - Cardinal
· Diamondhead C.C. - Pine
· Great Southern Golf Club
· Sunkist Country Club
· Mississippi National Golf Club
· Dogwood Hills Golf Club

Golf destinations are very desirable for all golfers and we continue to add more golf destinations. Recently we added Palm Springs and we have started searching some of the courses in Myrtle Beach. So many more to search (and we are working on all of them!)….

For our cold weather friends, as the snow melts and courses start to reopen in the northern part of the US, GolfSigma will start searching and displaying their tee times automatically. So if you are in getting ready for the upcoming golf season, remember to start your search on http://www.golfsigma.com/.

We have been collecting information from a survey that we have included in our emails and wanted to share some of the survey results. We have found that golfers will search three different web sites and consider up to five different golf courses prior to making their tee time decision. Golfers also said that the cheapest price at a course is not always the main deciding factor, the actual tee time sometimes was much more important than saving a few dollars.

Rest assured we all realize that finding a tee time for your next round of golf is not always the easiest thing to do. Trying to take all the variables into consideration, time, price, course, location, weather, daylight, and of course, can my friends make the time, are just some of the issues that you need to consider.

Until GolfSigma came along, there was not one place to go to see the answers to all these questions. So stick with GolfSigma and watch us add more courses, here there and ….. New features, new tools, all created to make finding your next tee time easier, faster and enjoyable.

For today we will present you with the addtional tee times of The Gulf Coast of Mississippi.

Stay tuned more to come.....

Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-56974640433543989312010-03-01T06:01:00.000-08:002010-03-02T15:49:59.007-08:00Wow, all I wanted to do was book a tee time
There is a lot of text in the post; sorry I got on my bandwagon. Since I wrote it, I think it is an interesting read, (a little bit of a prejudice there) but it is a long read. So I am afraid I will lose you before the end. If that is the case, skip to the bottom of the post and look for, Not too difficult now to see the need for GolfSigma. Then read all the things GolfSigma can do for you.

All I wanted to do is book a round of golf online. Sounds easy enough, but it is not exactly as easy as it sounds. One site has the correct tee time but the price is excessively high. Wow, another site has a great deal but only one tee time and I need four.
Umm, what was the URL for the golf course’s web site, was it golfcourseurlgc@something.com, or golfcourseurlgolfcourse@golfcourse.com, or any of another 100 possible combinations. I thought the heck with it; I will just call the course and ask for the Internet discount, yeah right, that is not happening. (and it really shouldn't, but that is a story for another time.)

Here is the lowdown on what you will see, or maybe not see when you are searching from site to site for your next tee time. When you start looking at the tee time sites closely, you can really start to see the differences they have. So here are just some of the variables that come into play when you start to search for your next online tee time.

Times;
· Some sites only have a few tee times to display, while other sites have tons of tee times for the same course for the same day.
· Some only have morning times.
· And you may never notice this happening, but some tee time web sites will automatically replenish tee times that get sold. (some courses would rather not display too many tee times for whatever reason)

Price;
· Different tee time web sites have different prices.
· Different tee time sites have different tee times with different prices.
· Different tee time sites have the same tee times with different prices.
· Different tee time web sites prices change at different times. (Twilight)
· There are those sites that have that one tee time at that unbelievable price. When does that appear, how many of those are there, darn I was late to get it. (It is like chasing the Holy Grail)

How far out (the booking window):
· Different sites allow you to book your online tee time a different amount of days into the future. (called the booking window).
· Different sites have the same courses as other sites but with different booking windows.
· Some sites will have a booking window as far out as two months and these sites will typically show higher prices as it gets closer to the current day.
· Ah, but the above trend is starting to change and some sites feature lower prices for booking further out. Tell me this is not getting confusing.
· Some sites are in the Vacation Golf business and feature a very long range-booking window.

Area;
· Depending upon the tee time site that you are looking at, chances are that they may only cover certain regional areas.
· The same companies that power golf courses operate some sites and depending on the size of the company; they may have a regional presence or a specific type of golf course presence, i.e. municipal, semi-private, limited play private.

Tee time online booking sites, so many, how do you choose.
· Some sites offer loyalty programs.
· Some sites look like the other sites but are just a tad higher. (affiliates)
· A few are the biggest tee time sites, but are they the best deal, do they have what you want, price, times, booking window, course?
· There are tee time sites that have a particular niche that you may never have heard of.
· There are golf course web sites, if you can remember their URL.
· Then some of the golf course web sites have up to five booking engines on the site, which one is the correct one for you?
· Management companies have tee time sites.

Not too difficult now to see the need for GolfSigma.

When we designed GolfSigma we set out to solve, or give the golfer the tools to help them solve, each of the above issues.

Time, it’s right there in the best presentation on the web for you to decide when you want to play and to compare the times providers may have.

Price, sort from high to low, low to high, select your favorite course and see comparisons in prices that have never been available before.

Booking window will become longer as we develop some of the additional providers that have those long range tee times. This will help you to plan your next golf vacation.

Area, no need for you to try and find the web sites for a specific area, GolfSigma does it for you. We are constantly adding more and more sites to search.

Who to book with? There is and always will be one simple answer to this question, the site you want to do business with.

Did you ever think that much thought needed to go into booking your next tee time?

<div all about tee times.More courses have been added to our search engine as we work our way across the country. (Country at least for now) We continually look for web sites to search and this time several sites have reached out to us. We have just added some new inventory in one of the best golf destinations in the US, Palm Springs California.

In addition to adding additional inventory, we are now searching tee times for 10 more new courses in the Palm Springs area. As we spider our way across the nation we look to find sites, golf courses, and tee time providers that will let us display their tee times. Believe me we are asking them all.

Another great US golf destination has also been added, Myrtle Beach South Carolina. The new course, Myrtle Beach TPC is displaying tee times and we look to add as many courses as possible in the wonderful golf destination.

We have developed a rule in our small company, and that is not to talk about features and providers that we are working on but have not released. So I will not tell you about the new courses that we are working on or all the new back end stuff that we have been jamming on, I hate this policy.

So the next time I talk I hope to expound upon these new things. But for now, keep up the killer work on the tech and more tee times are coming your way.

SOOOOOOOO Much more to come.......

RichRichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-24060873889645204152009-12-23T10:04:00.000-08:002009-12-23T10:08:17.085-08:00Happy Holidays
I want to thank each and every one of you that have visited GolfSigma and have become a regular at GolfSigma.com. I especially want to thank you for telling your golfing friends about us, that is the best Christmas present that you can give us, and a special gift that will keep on giving for the golfers in your life. A month has almost past since my last update and I am here to tell you our silence will be your gain.

Features, features, and more features is what we have been working on and I cannot wait to tell you all about them.

· Long range tee times / the ability to book tee times longer than two weeks. This is one of the highest items on our list, is it ready, can I tell you more….soon. I can tell you one thing for sure; the first provider will open up one of the top five destination golf locations in the nation.
· Next would be the course d…
· Also the new addition to course c…
· How about I explain the new se…

Alright, I am sticking to our unwritten company policy and will not talk about new features till they are released. It is just so hard to do because I know the golfers will really like where we are going with our golfer friendly interface. I hope the next time I write on the blog I will be able to discuss some of the new features and enhancements that we are hard at work on.

Till then….more to come

Happy Holidays

Rich
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-36590783411849063582009-11-27T11:06:00.000-08:002009-11-27T11:10:25.312-08:00No news is good news.

No News is good news, kind of. I would love to have some new features to tell you about, but not in this post. No news is good news, because we have been very busy with all sorts of new features that are all rolled into one new release. When might you ask, umm I have asked the same question, and as I am kept in suspense, and so will you.

Ah but we all agree at GolfSigma that we will not talk about what we are working on, which is really hard for me. But I will be tight lipped and just tell you that our customer is the golfer and all the things we are working on will make our customer’s experience better.

So with that said, please tell your follow golfers about GolfSigma, tell concierges, tell who ever can use our product about us, we appreciate all your support. There is one thing that we can always say and that is we look for new courses to search all the time, if you do not see your favorite course drop us a line and we will see if we can add them. If you’re a course, it’s free; we would love to add you. In the mean time have a happy holiday season and maybe the next post will not be about no news.

SOOOOOOO much more to come.......

Rich

Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-30533615320972796652009-10-28T14:37:00.000-07:002009-10-28T14:41:23.997-07:00How close are we?
Well it depends what aspect of GolfSigma you are asking about. Ad server - there, stability - there, adding courses - never ending, speed – there, proximity finder – there. What is that all about, proximity finder?

Well it is very obvious that most golfers know their home town and have no need to know how far away their favorite courses are. Ah, but what happens when you want to play golf out of town and use GolfSigma. Most of us probably would not know which courses are around the area that we will be staying, thus making the best tee time search engine, GolfSigma, a difficult tool to use.

So once again the CTO, in a stroke of brilliance, took GolfSigma to the next level and has used some state – of – the – art technology to solve this problem in a very cool and easy to use fashion. After we serve up your search results in a nanosecond, well maybe a millisecond, you can type in any address in the “Sort by distance from address:” search box. Quickly, we will sort your search results by distance from the address that you entered and also display how far the course is from your address. Problem solved!

Umm are we gearing up for long range tee times and the traveling golfer? You bet! How close are we?

More to come.

Rich
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-18313046199688478672009-10-17T08:19:00.000-07:002009-10-17T08:24:09.524-07:00Busy working away!It has been awhile since my last post and we have been strategizing and working our tails off on new features. First I want to say that I am very happy to report that the site has stabilized and is faster than ever. With the inventory of tee times that we search over 5 million, it is truly amazing at the speed that we can return the results for a specific area. We remain focused on adding golf courses and web sites to search and in the coming months we look to add many more golf courses and expect to at least triple our tee time inventory.

A major part of GolfSigma’s strategy that will increase our tee time inventory is that we are looking to add longer range tee times to help golfers plan their next golf trip. You may also see courses start to offer incentives to golfers who book further out, so we want to make sure that GolfSigma can provide golfers the best selection of long range and short term tee times. Yes we are very focused on long range tee times, we want the golfer to start their research for tee times for their golf vacation on GolfSigma, ah but one of the missing pieces of research is course information.

So what have we been working on, a comprehensive golf course directory. There are many directories out there on the web but we have decided to present a golf course directory that is golfer friendly and with the information that a golfer would want to know. A directory that has the information that would help you decide if you wanted to play the course. Why will this be different? We have been very busy obtaining the links to golf courses for several items that will help you learn about the course, URL’s, score cards, user reviews, etc.. Lots of work lies ahead of us, and we look forward to your continued support.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you that we have developed the pricing for forthcoming enhancements, same price that we charge you to use the search engine http://www.golfsigma.com/, FREE!

More to come………..

RichRichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-42687336042448146062009-09-23T09:50:00.000-07:002009-09-23T10:36:27.643-07:00What we have been up to....
What’s new is very simple stated, stability. Our new platform has provided us with the means to grow our tee time inventory, (currently around 5 million tee times) and increase our courses count, while maintaining the delivery of super fast search results. Now we will continue on our quest to try and search ever and any course that has an online presence.

We have added a quick link directory to show you some of the more popular golfing destinations. You can access that from the home page or just click here to take a look. Remember that these are just a few of the popular cities; you should be able to find any US city that has a golf course within a 50 mile radius.

We have also added a Forum that talks about everything golf. Have a swing tip, a golf joke (keep it clean), a predicted winner at the next PGA tour event (Tiger), head on over to the new Forum. We welcome your participation and look forward to meeting you in the Forum.

Hard to believe, but 25,000 Tweeps have decided to follow us on Twitter. If you are into Twitter and Facebook keep up to date with the latest. One thing I can guarantee is you will not see any posting about my golf game. (I do not want to be responsible for anybody injuring themselves by laughing to hard). Umm with all the Swing Instructions that are advertised on Twitter I wonder if any of them work?

We have also added a FAQ section which currently has very few questions, which is what we fully expect due to the ease of use of GolfSigma.

Ah one last item to mention, Sigma Ads. We have installed our own ad server in an attempt to accomplish two goals; deliver pertinent golf ads to your specific area, and hopes to help fund our endeavor. For our viewers we expect that they will see very exciting golf promotions from courses and other advertisers. Why will the advertisers be interested, because GolfSigma is one of the best sites to reach golfers, who else is on the site? Win, Win, Win……

As always, more to come…….

Rich
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-83067182850183533192009-08-31T16:16:00.000-07:002009-08-31T16:45:53.673-07:00300 more courses added!!!We said it before; that we want to display the tee times of every golf course that is able to book online, on GolfSigma. This past weekend we put on quite a few more courses, 335 more to be exact, this should make our Michigan, New Jersey, South Carolina, New York, and Wisconsin golfers very happy. Those are not the only states that we added courses to, but that is where 50% of the courses were added! So if you are in those areas take a look and see if you recognize any of our new additions. If you are not in those areas you should still take a quick look at your area and see what courses we have added.

Another cool part that is starting to emerge from GolfSigma is that we are becoming the place to start your tee time search when you are going to be traveling and playing golf. Some tee time sources are going out further than a few days making planning your vacation golf easier with the help of GolfSigma. Providing our golfers with long range tee times is a main focus of GolfSigma and we are continually working toward that goal. Hopefully in the very near future we can announce another relationship that will bring many new courses with extended range tee times.

Oh yeah, a nice detailed course directory that has golfer needed info……ummmm soon.

Rich

More to come……Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-78170700880162660202009-08-24T18:09:00.000-07:002009-08-24T18:14:49.289-07:00The best 59 Minutes we have spent! So much time and effort goes into the code that we look at everyday to make all these features on websites work. Most of the time we take all these features for granted, except when it is bad, they you say, “What were they thinking”. Just recently we made a change that involved how we search for courses, by city and zip code.

I was never a fan of how our city search took so long to find the city I was looking for. I got use to typing in the city that I was looking for and then going to make a cup of coffee, get a doughnut, and when I got back….. It wasn’t that bad, but it was a tad slow.

So one day I got an IM that said, “Wow 59 minutes to run this little program that I just wrote, now try typing a city into the box.” Wow, like never before Sigma search was fast and fun; ok well maybe getting carried away with the fun part, but now I need to figure out another time to make my coffee!

Try it and you will see how fast the search box finds the city you are looking for, but before you do; grab a cup of coffee and a few doughnuts, because you will have many tee times to chose from.

Kudos to the brilliant mind that makes GolfSigma tick!

Rich,

Much, much more to come….Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-67017929295691251292009-08-21T08:59:00.000-07:002009-08-21T09:05:03.462-07:00In The Bag.If you have been to GolfSigma before, hopefully you have had a chance to revisit and experience the speed and quality of the site today. We have worked long hours trying to tweak the engine to produce timely results without the “Opps” message popping up, and yes we have accomplished our goal.

Along the way we have managed to simplify search and eliminate one complete page/step from the process of finding your next tee time. The number of courses has grown to over 2700 and the inventory of tee times continues to grow past two million and GolfSigma keeps returning search results with unbelievable speeds. All of these changes have been made with one person in mind, you our user!

It would have been fun to implement many of the cool ideas that we have, but we want our core business, search, to be working as good and correctly as possible. With over one full week (in the bag) of great performance behind us, we are now back to adding features, courses, more tee times, ads, (need to make some money) and some cool stuff.

Till the next time, more to come………..

RichRichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-21378753794044396262009-08-19T10:56:00.000-07:002009-08-19T11:11:09.644-07:00The BolgWell there is one thing for sure; golfers read the email where I directed them to the Bolg! No good excuses, at least none that you want to hear or one that I want to print. My commitment, to do better.

Enough said, wow last two days have been crazy. The tech continues to perform wonderfully, providing top speed searches to over 1 million tee times in our database. We have been working hard to add a new provider which we should have wrapped up today, adding another 100 courses of which 40 are new to GolfSigma.

I want to thank all our new visitors and look forward to seeing you come back. Much more to come…. so sign up for our Bolg.Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-7767398285439752172009-08-16T07:17:00.001-07:002009-08-16T12:45:36.840-07:00Are we there yet?Simply stated, GolfSigma is a tee time search engine, period. To that point everything we do is done with the objective of how this will make the experience of our user, the golfer, better. We, and I use that term loosely because I would not even know how to code an excel spread sheet, have spent the last three months getting the quality of the inventory dialed in. As we started to grow we started to slow down and run into all sorts of oddities, I have talked at length in past post about these problems.

Enough said, "we have nailed it", as I knew we would, and it is time to move on. In the process of cleaning things up we have added another 250 courses making it a total of over 2600 golf courses. Tee times in GolfSigma over 500,000!

Coming up next, we will be adding new places to search which means more golf courses, more tee times, more tee time overlap, and tee times that are further out in time. We are at the tip of the iceberg and ready to charge forward.

Are we there yet? Let's just say the journey has just begun!

Finally more to come………..

RichRichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-30708026868656908512009-08-15T01:23:00.000-07:002009-08-15T01:32:11.315-07:00We're BACK!I am finally starting to feel good about the inventory system. We are back in action and tweaking MySQL to work on performance. I’m considering a personal blog to discuss technical aspects of GolfSigma but that is for another day. We are now serving up inventory for the following websites (aka Providers):

ActiveGolf.com

AZCentral.com

Chicago Tribune

Click4TeeTimes.com

EZLinksSpecials.com

Golf512.com

GolfNow.com

OpenTeeTime.com

We would like to double the list of websites we are searching in the next couple months. If you’ve done searching on GolfSigma.com before, you should notice we are serving up results much faster than in the past. We’ve also made a huge improvement in the way we perform these updates, resulting in much more accurate inventory. We’re trying as hard as we can to ensure that when you click on a link to book a reservation, the tee-time is still available. Please let us know if you have any problems by filling out our contact us form.
Shaun - CTOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15581523793310808880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-27447649318682602732009-08-08T13:50:00.000-07:002009-08-08T14:09:54.302-07:00All the King's men are back at it!This is a non technical post, from the non technical one at GolfSigma. I said "We thought we were close," in yesterday’s post but I think I showed some signs of premature hope.

We were so very close but we are still not happy with the quality of the inventory, so a fun weekend lies ahead for our CTO who is forsaking the nightlife and will be having a tryst with his PC till he kicks this issue.

We will nail it, and then continue on putting the rest of the searched inventory back on GolfSigma, i.e. Active Golf, Click4teetimes, and several others. Thanks for your patients; you will see this will be well worth the wait!

Rich, much more to come…..Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-41437552911359879962009-08-07T15:10:00.000-07:002009-08-07T15:14:12.278-07:00All the King’s Horses, and All the King’s Men…..We are putting “GolfSigma” back together again! If you have been to the site and experienced slow response or broken functions you will know what I am talking about. How we broke stuff is not as important as knowing that we are not only fixing everything but improving many of the parts that we touch along the way. Still struggling at times with some time out issues, but overall things are looking very positive.

Oh, we added this blog to the home page so you can keep up to date with and see what we have been doing, or better yet see what we have planned. On a personal note, I even managed to attach the feed for this blog to Outlook without any technical support from our technical Guru, so I know you can do it. :)

So today we also located the bulletin that we have on the home page. The hope here is for this to flourish as a forum for anything to do with golf. Golf stories, equipment, courses, tee times, service, holes in one, etc… So give it a whirl and we will look forward to your Threads.

Oh yeah almost forgot to mention, all the filters, (price, alpha, time, number of golfers), should all be working now!!!!!

Rich

so much more to come………………………Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12851145780261207868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8000771562561161456.post-26378368198497332972009-08-07T10:57:00.000-07:002009-08-07T11:05:25.795-07:00ActiveGolf.com and Click4TeeTimesLooks like we're having a few issues with Click4TeeTimes and ActiveGolf.com.
